Guarneri del Gesù 1736 Violin “Muntz”

I feel very honored to have received the Guarneri del Gesù “Muntz” kindly loaned by the Nippon Music Foundation and it is even more special because it is the first del Gesù I have had the pleasure to play on. The first thing that caught my eye even before trying it was the marvelous varnish covering the violin and its good condition, perfectly preserved. Although adapting and getting to know the qualities of a violin usually takes time, I have to say with the “Muntz” was very easy, I understood from the very first moment how to get the best out of it. From that first impression there has been an evolution, not just of the violin but also from my side; I have found many new colors and I’m amazed by all the different nuances such an instrument can offer. What impresses me the most about the violin is its very warm, deep and partly dark sound which contrasts with its wide palette of bright and brilliant colors.
